When a lot of smart people in my Twitter timeline started talking about NFTs, my head went to this Chris Dixon essay— The next big thing will start out looking like a toy

My "aha" moment was realizing that having all data publicly accessible on the blockchain essentially bifurcated the responsibilities of the application and the "database" and would allow different apps/platforms to leverage the same source of truth.

My OpenSea exchange could recognize me as a legitimate NFT holder, as could my Discord, as could the token-gated store, etc.

I wanted to buy into an up-and-coming collection that I sort of "vibed" with, and I felt some confidence in going big given that I had invested relatively early into ETH and it didn't mentally feel like the same risk as taking new FIAT out of pocket.

Takes the concept of an open 'api' to a whole new level
